When St. Saviour's Church Brockley Rise met on Sunday to celebrate their 150th Birthday it was smiles all round. A new befriending scheme for isolated older people was launched by the Mayor of Lewisham wearing a special Linking Lives mayoral chain. He linked arms with the Bishop of Woolwich, the coordinator vicar Rev Alyson Peberdy and Lunch Club leader Kathleen Knight.
Linking Lives in Crofton Park promises to make a very big difference to those who spend much of their time alone. Local volunteers will give at least one hour a week to befriend a local person who is lonely, maybe because relatives have moved away, their partner has died, or they can't get out. Volunteer training and support is provided and links made with local activities nearby like the Elder Persons Support Project at the Ackroyd Centre. The more volunteers, the more links in the chain and the more smiles all round. Volunteers of any faith or none are welcome. So would you like to help link lives in Crofton Park?
